At dusk a young man comes running out of Gao Village to look for a master who can catch monsters, and Wukong stops him at the gate. Old Mr. Gao has a strange trouble. Three years ago a big, sturdy young man called Zhu came to work on the farm. He ploughed without an ox and reaped without a sickle, and the old man promised him his youngest daughter, Cuilan. Then his mouth grew long and his ears grew big: he was a pig-headed monster who eats a hundred sesame cakes for breakfast, comes and goes in a storm of sand and stones, and has kept Cuilan locked in the back building for half a year. “Nothing to it,” says Wukong. That night one tap of his staff opens the big brass lock, Cuilan runs to her father, and Wukong takes her shape and waits. At midnight the wind brings the monster home. He boasts of his thirty-six transformations and his nine-toothed rake, but when he hears that the Great Sage who made havoc in heaven has been sent for, he tries to slip away. “Cuilan” wipes a hand across her face and shows her true shape: Sun Wukong! The monster turns into a gust of wind and flees to a mountain, with Wukong after him on his somersault cloud. Words to learn: 现原形 (to show one's true shape; to be found out), 庄 (a village) and 锁 (a lock), plus the old saying Wukong quotes: make things easy for others, and things become easy for you.
