Absolute Equality: Unity Tunnel-CODAworx Award

Unity Tunnel began with a vision to create a space where people could see themselves, their neighbors, and their community reflected in public art. In this behind-the-scenes video, join me as we bring that vision to life in Austin, Texas. From community conversations to hands-on mosaic workshops, you’ll see children, families, artists, and neighbors contributing to an artwork that now belongs to the community. My approach to public art begins with people. Sharing ideas, working side by side, and placing tiles together create opportunities for connection. Those moments become part of the artwork’s story. Seeing participants recognize their contributions in Unity Tunnel reminds me why this work matters. Together, we created a place that celebrates creativity, connection, and belonging. Thank you to everyone who shared their time, talent, and stories, and to the City of Austin’s Art in Public Places program for supporting this collaborative journey.
