How do culture, family traditions, and community expectations influence the way we talk about mental illness? In many Hispanic and Latino families, values such as strength, resilience, and close family connections play an important role in everyday life. But when it comes to mental illness, certain expectations, misconceptions, and fears of judgment can sometimes make it difficult to speak openly or ask for help. Join the Anti-Stigma Coalition of WNY for an honest and engaging conversation exploring how mental illness is perceived within Hispanic and Latino communities, the challenges individuals and families may face, and what we can do to break down stigma. Our panelists will share personal and professional perspectives on cultural attitudes, generational differences, family dynamics, and the importance of creating safe spaces for conversations about mental illness. Together, we'll explore how understanding, education, and community support can help change perceptions and encourage people to seek the help they need. Panelists include: • Alexzander J. Almenas LMSW, Mental Hhealth Counselor, PROMESA, INC, Hispanics United of Buffalo (HUB) • Dr. Andrea Pitts, PhD, Associate Professor, Director of Graduate Studies, UB • Dr. Daniela Recabarren, PhD, LP, Associate Director for Direct Care Services, UNC Charlotte • Charles F. Torres, Regional Director, Hispanics United of Buffalo (HUB). Moderated by: Matt Smith, Executive Director, PreventionFocus
