Advocate Selby Makgotho on SIU 2025/2026 financial year

The Special Investigating Unit recovered cash and assets, prevented potential financial losses and secured the setting aside of contracts amounting to over R28 billion during the 2025/26 financial year. The amount includes more than a billion rand in potential losses prevented and over 900 million rand in cash and/or assets recovered. This was revealed by the Head of the SIU, Leonard Lekgetho, in Parliament this week. He also confirmed that 761 criminal referrals have been made to the National Prosecuting Authority relating to matters involving officials, private entities and individuals suspected of criminal wrongdoing.
