La Raspa

La Raspa is a folk dance from eastern Mexico, said to have begun in Veracruz. This dance is often incorrectly called the "Mexican Hat Dance" or Jarabe Tapatio. It most likely got its name from the German word "raspere", which means "to grate upon", which could refer to the guiro, an instrument from Latin America that makes a scraping or grating sound! La Raspa is a simple and wonderful folk dance offering many options for movements and actions.
