LED headlights that cost thousands, bumpers packed with radar and cameras, windshield camera calibration, "lifetime" transmission fluid and monthly subscriptions for things already built into the car: owners, mechanics and body shops are posting the repair quotes that come with modern car technology, and what the dealership asked them to pay.
In this compilation a body shop owner explains why a bumper is now a computer with paint on it, a parts seller can't believe a main dealer asked ten thousand pounds for a pair of Porsche headlights, and a Camry owner watches remote start, navigation and the digital key expire after one year unless he pays every month. A mechanic holds up the dark, metal-filled fluid from a three-year-old Highlander whose transmission now costs twelve thousand dollars to replace, a Porsche owner pays a thousand dollars for one key, a dealership answers a ten-thousand-dollar service bill with a brand-new car payment, and a mobile mechanic finds that the timing chain job the dealer wanted to do was never needed. A new Silverado comes without a dipstick, a car with no spare tire ends up on a tow truck over one nail, a ten-month-old Range Rover needs at least four and a half thousand pounds of work, one owner cries over her mechanic bill, and a Lexus owner finds out the remote start she was told needed a subscription was in her key fob all along.
