What if AI could build your Power BI data model for you? In this video, I connect Codex to Power BI Desktop using the Power BI MCP extension in Visual Studio Code, and let it do the modeling work from simple prompts, on a real Decathlon sales project. 🔹 What Codex did automatically: ✅ Connected to the open Power BI file ✅ Listed all tables and fields in the model ✅ Created relationships between Sales, Store and Products tables ✅ Built a Date table from Purchase_Date (Date, Month num, Month name, Year, Quarter, Week num, Day num, Day name) ✅ Created KPI measures in a separate folder: • Total Sales • Sales YTD • Previous Year Sales • YoY Sales Growth • YoY Sales Growth % • Running Total Sales 📝 Prompts used in this video: 1. Please connect to the Decathlon project Power BI file that's currently open. 2. What all tables are in this file? 3. List all tables and fields available in the Power BI model. 4. Inspect the tables and fields, then create the appropriate relationships between the tables. 5. Create a date table based on Purchase_Date with only these columns: Date, Month num, Month name, Year, Quarter num, Quarter (Q1–Q4), Week num, Day num, Day Name. 6. Inspect the model and create these measures one at a time, in this order: Total Sales, Sales YTD, Previous Year Sales, YoY Sales Growth, YoY Sales Growth %, Running Total Sales. Put them in a new folder. 💬 Have you tried AI with Power BI?
