Date: 29th Jan 2023 Topics: Marwan bin Hakam was very experienced in politics and a knowledgeable person. First thing he does was to remove the Governors of Abdullah bin Zubair from Shaam. And then totally captured Damascus since the governor of Abdullah bin Zubair, Zahack bin Qays(radhiallahu anhu) was not present there. Marjih Raahit(north of Damascus) was the battle fought between them (Zahack bin Qays and Marwan bin Hakam). This battle continued for 20 days. Zahack bin Qays lost the battle and died in this battle. Numan bin Bashir was also with him and he also died. few others fled away. So the whole of Damascus came under the control of Marwan bin Hakam. Marwan bin Hakam seems to be quite upset with the battle and the killings. He then proceeded towards Egypt to gain control of it. bcoz Egypt has more supported of Umayyad than others. They did not have to face much revolt there and easily got control of Egypt. Abdul Aziz bin Marwan was made the governor of Egypt. But he was quite scared for this post.. So Marwan gave a nice Naseeha. Then he sent Ubaydullah bin Ziyaad to Iraq to capture it. But during that, Marwan died after 6-10 months of his Kihalaafat. Marwan designated his sons Abd al-Malik and Abd al-Aziz as his successors(and discontinued the family(Khalid ibn Yazid and Amr ibn Sa’id) of Muawiyah from Khilaafat)
