Alex Eala left China without a single win — and within hours, the Philippines was arguing with itself about how to feel. This is what actually happened in those 48 hours, and why both sides of the argument were right. On October 12th, 2026, Alex Eala lost 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 to world No.217 Shi Han in the first round of the Wuhan Open. The next night, she and Zeynep Sonmez lost their doubles opener 2-6, 3-6 in 69 minutes. Two matches, two days, zero wins, and the end of her WTA Finals hopes. Then the reaction started. Her uncle, former PBA commissioner Noli Eala, posted that she was simply outplayed and that there was "not the usual spunk or energy in her game." Online, some fans wrote that her fame would fade. On the other side, Filipino physician Dr. Tony Leachon published an open letter saying he was writing not in disappointment, but in respect. Former world top-ten player Andrea Petkovic said there was nothing embarrassing about any of it. In this video we go through all four voices, and show why not one of them is wrong — which means the argument was never really about Alex Eala at all. We also look at one detail almost nobody connected this week: Wuhan was one of the only matches she played all year without Filipino fans in the building. This is the second video in our series on Alex Eala's 2026 season. The first one, on the warning that predicted the Wuhan collapse 24 hours before it happened, is linked below.
