Strangers Who Paid for Someone's Shopping and Walked Away

Strangers paying for groceries: 17 true stories of strangers who paid for someone's shopping in full, at the checkout or the layaway counter, and then walked away, most of them without ever giving a name. A phone number written on the back of a receipt by a woman who would not take no for an answer. A single certified check that cleared 194 layaway accounts at once. And a text message that arrived years later, on exactly the day it was needed most. Has a stranger ever paid for your shopping, or have you ever quietly paid for someone else's?
