I spent years being the cool, chill, low-maintenance woman. The one who didn't ask for too much, didn't cause problems and made sure everyone else was happy.
And I can confidently say I'm never going back.
In this episode, I'm unpacking the cost of being the “good girl” — the woman who is always understanding, accommodating, supportive and easygoing, often at the expense of her own needs, desires and identity.
I share my own experience of swinging between being labelled “too much” growing up and becoming the woman who made herself smaller to feel accepted. How I lost myself in relationships, became consumed by other people's needs and eventually realised that both versions of me were seeking the same thing: external validation.
I also explore why so many women have become so accustomed to accepting the bare minimum that they've forgotten they're allowed to want more.
Because being low-maintenance isn't always a personality trait. Sometimes it's a protective pattern we've learned to avoid rejection, conflict or abandonment.
And the way out isn't becoming louder, harder or more demanding. It's learning to accept yourself, honour your needs and trust that you can be loved without constantly performing for it.
I'll also leave you with a simple three-day challenge to start breaking free from good girl programming, practising honesty in everyday situations and getting comfortable speaking your truth.
Because sometimes the most powerful thing you can do for yourself is stop being nice at the expense of being honest.
If you've ever been the strong one, the easygoing one, the woman who never needs anything from anyone, this episode is for you.
