Greece; Lefkada Island; Gialos Beach | UA: Греція; Острів Лефкада/Лефкас; Пляж Гіалос The beach extends for a considerable distance beneath steep rocky slopes and has a spacious, open character. Light sand and small pebbles meet the deep blue and turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea, while high cliffs behind the shoreline create a dramatic landscape typical of western Lefkada. The coastline is much less secluded than the small bays located on the eastern side of the island. To reach the beach, follow a winding road down from the Athani area. The approach passes through rugged mountainous terrain before descending to the sea. Unlike the beaches, which are reached by long steps, Gialos is accessible by road much closer to the shore, making it convenient for travelers exploring southern Lefkada by car. The long coastline provides ample space for visitors to relax, so even in summer it can feel less crowded than some of Lefkada's more famous beaches. Some areas may have umbrellas and sun loungers, while others retain a simpler, more natural feel. This combination allows visitors to choose between staying close to organized amenities or strolling along the shore in search of a quieter spot. Swimming conditions depend on the weather, as the beach faces the open Ionian Sea. On calm days, the clear water and turquoise hues are particularly inviting. However, when the westerly wind picks up, large waves can form near the shore. This open space is part of the character of Lefkada's western beaches and should be considered by families with small children or those who are less confident swimmers. Gialos is especially attractive for travelers who enjoy scenic coastal drives and prefer a wide beach surrounded by relatively unspoiled nature. It can easily be combined with Athani and other famous attractions of the southwest coast during a single trip. Lefkada itself is particularly convenient for road trips, as it is connected to mainland Greece by a floating bridge and can therefore be reached by car without a ferry crossing.
