Goa’s opposition politics has suddenly become the biggest political story ahead of the 2027 Assembly election. The formation of the Goa Forward Party–AAP alliance, Goa First, has triggered an aggressive response from the Congress. The battle is no longer merely about defeating the BJP. It is increasingly becoming a battle over who occupies Goa’s anti-BJP opposition space. Congress is pushing the argument that Goa First will split the opposition vote and ultimately benefit the BJP. Goa Forward and AAP are countering with an equally aggressive narrative: that voting Congress carries the risk of elected MLAs subsequently defecting and strengthening the BJP.
