What if some of the “old-fashioned” habits our mothers and grandmothers used were actually examples of sustainability? Before sustainability became a popular term, many families already practised simple ways of conserving resources; using water carefully, reusing containers, repairing things, reducing waste and making what they had last. In this Sustainable September video, Hellen Chinyanga explores the connection between sustainability, everyday choices, habits, water conservation and ethics. A simple question sits at the centre of this conversation: What if the resources we save today could benefit someone else tomorrow? As communities continue to face water challenges and climate conditions place additional pressure on water and other resources, everyday choices matter. Sustainability isn't about perfection or simply having less. It is about using resources responsibly, building better habits and thinking beyond our immediate needs. One choice can become a habit. Habits can become culture. And culture can shape how our families, businesses, schools and communities use resources. What is one sustainability habit from your mothers or grandmothers that you think we should bring back? I'm Hellen Chinyanga, your Sustainability Professional, and this is Sustainable September. Start with the choice. Build the habit. Create the culture. Sustain the value.
