Teaching at the Intersection of Immigration & Education: A Higher Ed Faculty Guide | VIRTUAL LAUNCH

On September 15, 2026, CUNY-IIE hosted the virtual launch of Teaching at the Intersection of Immigration and Education: A Guide for Higher Education Faculty, a resource designed to support faculty in integrating immigration and education themes into their courses and preparing future educators to better welcome, support, and to better welcome and support immigrant-origin students. The webinar featured CUNY-IIE Faculty Fellows Fumio Someki, Imani Irving Perez, and René Antrop-González, who shared their experiences incorporating immigration-related topics, critical reflection, and new teaching approaches into their courses. The discussion also featured William Murphy, Deputy Commissioner of Higher Education at the New York State Education Department, and Johanna Garcia, Chief of Staff to Senator Robert Jackson, who discussed educator preparation and policy efforts supporting immigrant-origin students.
