GUILTY SOMEDAY
You came with chains before the crime,
Already certain, right on time.
No broken glass, no smoking gun,
Just something you were scared I'd become.
You read tomorrow like a sentence,
Called your fear evidence.
And every word you couldn't prove
Was somehow reason enough to move.
Tell me, when did maybe
Become enough to condemn?
If I'm guilty someday,
What does that make me now?
If you already know the ending,
Why should I prove you wrong somehow?
You built the cage,
You turned the key,
Then looked me in the face
Like you were saving me.
If I'm guilty someday—
What am I today?
You took the wild and called it dangerous,
Took the strange and called it wrong.
Threw one away where no one sees,
Sent one where no one belongs.
And the one that trusted most
Learned what promises are worth.
You smiled while tightening the knot
And called your cruelty the cure.
Tell me, when did frightened
Start meaning you were right?
If I'm guilty someday,
What does that make me now?
If you already know the ending,
Why should I prove you wrong somehow?
You built the cage,
You turned the key,
Then looked me in the face
Like you were saving me.
If I'm guilty someday—
What am I today?
Maybe you're right.
Maybe every nightmare
You whisper when I leave the room
Is waiting somewhere inside me.
Maybe I'll become
Exactly what you think I am.
But if I do—
Don't you dare forget
Who taught me what a monster is.
You wanted teeth?
I'll remember.
You wanted poison?
I'll remember.
You wanted something
Cold enough to rule the dead?
I'll remember.
Every chain.
Every lie.
Every time you called fear
Being wise.
If I'm guilty someday,
Then remember me now.
Before you wrote the ending,
Before you showed me how.
You built the cage.
You turned the key.
You made damn sure
I'd know exactly what you see.
If I'm guilty someday,
Don't pretend you never knew—
You were so afraid
I'd become a monster...
You never asked
What that would do.

THE SHADOW THEY DREW
The Shadow They Drew is an independent conceptual punk rock album by PollitoKVA, inspired by Norse mythology, with Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman serving as one of its main creative references.
This album is not intended as a direct adaptation or retelling of the book. Its stories, characters and themes were used as a starting point for an original musical concept designed to stand on its own.
The songs are meant to work first and foremost as songs — something you can enjoy without knowing the mythology or following an explicit narrative — while listeners familiar with the source material may recognize ideas, parallels and references throughout the album.
The project explores themes of identity, expectations, belonging, responsibility and the consequences of being defined by others — while never removing responsibility for the choices we ultimately make ourselves.
ABOUT THE CREATIVE PROCESS
This is an independent, human-directed creative project developed through writing, rewriting, experimentation and iterative creative direction. Generative AI tools were used throughout parts of the music production and visual development process.
AI was used as a creative and production tool rather than as the concept behind the project. The concepts, writing, creative direction, revisions, visual identity and final selection were developed and curated specifically for The Shadow They Drew.
This is an unofficial project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Neil Gaiman, his publishers, or any existing adaptation or franchise related to Norse mythology.
