Umrangso: Assam’s Untouched Paradise Tucked away in the scenic Dima Hasao district of Assam, Umrangso is a hidden gem that captivates travelers with its pristine landscapes, serene lakes, and tranquil vibe. Known for its lush greenery and rich biodiversity, this quaint town offers a perfect escape for nature lovers and offbeat travelers seeking solace away from crowded tourist hotspots. You can explore Tularam Cave or visit the Golf Field, where you can enjoy a picnic or go on boat rides but make sure not to leave any trash behind or litter the landscape with your garbage. You can watch breathtaking sunsets over the Umrangso reservoir either from the Golf Field or another secret viewpoint (subscribe and comment below for the secret location). Nature’s Symphony: Panimur Waterfalls and Kopili River One of Umrangso’s most iconic attractions is the Panimur Waterfalls, where the mighty Kopili River cascades down rocky cliffs, creating a mesmerizing spectacle. The gushing sound of the falls, surrounded by verdant hills, is both invigorating and soothing. It’s an ideal spot for photography and picnics, offering visitors a chance to bask in nature’s beauty. Hydroelectric Power Hub Interestingly, Umrangso is also known for its hydroelectric power project, with the Kopili Hydro Electric Plant playing a vital role in the region’s energy production. A visit to this area highlights the balance between development and the preservation of nature. How to Get There Umrangso is well-connected by road and lies approximately 112 kilometers from Haflong, the district headquarters of Dima Hasao. The nearest railway station is at Lumding, while the closest airport is in Guwahati, about 250 kilometers away. The last stretch of road as you approach Umrangso from Guwahati has lots of speed-breakers placed hazardously without proper planning or markers so drive slow and carefully. Best Time to Visit The ideal time to visit Umrangso is from October to March, when the weather is cool and the natural beauty of the region is at its peak. The post-monsoon months bring lush greenery, making the landscape even more enchanting.
