“I feel like I cannot get anything done unless I get this out of my chest.
I feel extremely betrayed by the attack on titan manga. I loved Eren, he used to inspire me to be a better person (as sad as this sounds), now after 139 I feel like I lost my motivation, the thing that kept me going to be a better person.
Maybe I will just ramble a bit about Eren, pre 139 of course.
Maybe the quality that I liked most in Eren, is his ability to do the hard thing, whether this hard thing was committing war crimes and getting himself killed in the process, getting his friends killed, or literally gouging his own eye and cutting his leg. Eren was sad, he lost everything dear to him, he lost his friends, his freedom and ultimately his life, all of this because he saw something beyond the hell that was in front of him, and he gave up everything to reach it.
I keep thinking about the range of emotions he must have felt before attacking Marley, was he doubting himself, do you think he went out of the hospital he was staying in and thought about going back to Paradise, but then ultimately chose to go back inside and finish his mission to the bitter end. I feel like Eren was the most Human out of all the characters, he simply wanted to live and keep his friends alive, he did not care about grandiose ideas like sacrificing his life so other people can live, or that he will just have to accept that his race is cursed, and everyone has to die for it, he kept fighting because he was born into this world, and has the right is to live freely, even if he will never taste this freedom. He kept suffering anyway, so that other people do not suffer, he sacrificed his right to live, the very thing he is fighting for so that other people can live, what kept him going? I keep asking myself, at that point of the story, he was the strongest person alive, no one could even touch him, but he still threw himself right into hell, how, there are plenty of reasons on why he would do it, but thinking is something and actually moving forward to do it is something else, how did he find the strength to do it, he was all alone in a foreign country, all his friends are questioning him, he even knew he would die and never taste it, but he still kept going, did he find it fulfilling, did he value the lives of his friends that much, to the extent of dying for them, we’re talking about someone who’s fighting for something he’ll never enjoy, someone who’s only motivation is the well being of his friends and people.
That psychopathic laugh when Sasha die, what was he feeling, disappointment, loss, grieve, even though he was doing all of this so his friends could live long lives, Sasha still died because of him, and he still kept moving forward, knowing who was going to die next, knowing how hard it is going to be, he kept moving forward, he gave up the easy life of being the founder, he gave up the easy plan of Zeke and threw himself right into hell again, knowing that there will still be more casualties, knowing that his friends will hate him, knowing that no one will feel him, he still kept moving forward.
I was thinking, what did he believe in, what gave him this strength, and after so much thinking, I got it, he believed in himself, he kept going because there wasn’t any other option but to keep going, someone had to do it, and he decided that he would let no one shoulder this suffering, he only knew one thing, and one thing only, is that once you hit rock bottom, the only way is up.”
