The story between Abeeka Band and Janzi Band goes back to 2021, when five musicians who had been part of Janzi left and formed Abeeka. The group included Jimmy Lubwama, popularly known as Pages, Kevin Sekasi, Michael Sebulime, Allan Okia and Trevor Muhumuza, also known as Dr Tre.
Their departure attracted attention because the musicians had already established themselves while performing with Janzi. However, the split was largely described as a move to pursue a different musical direction and gain more creative independence.
Abeeka went on to develop its own identity, blending Afro-fusion with reggae, soul, dancehall and other contemporary sounds. As the band grew, comparisons with Janzi continued, especially because of the members' shared history.
Although the situation is often described as a fallout, there is no clear public evidence proving that a major personal feud was the reason behind the split. What is clear is that the musicians chose different paths, with Abeeka determined to build its own name and identity.
Years later, Abeeka has grown into a recognised live band in Uganda, proving that the split became a major turning point for its members. The Abeeka-Janzi story is therefore less about a simple rivalry and more about musicians leaving one chapter behind to create something of their own.
