Every Danny Phantom Crush Explained

Danny Phantom is defined as much by its complicated teen romances and unrequited crushes as it is by ghost-hunting. Danny Fenton’s initial, desperate infatuation with the shallow, popular Paulina Sanchez slowly fades as he realizes her affection is reserved entirely for his ghost alter-ego, Danny Phantom, while she completely ignores his human self. This ironic dynamic is mirrored by Valerie Gray, who dates human Danny while actively hunting Danny Phantom, unaware they are the same person. Meanwhile, Danny’s best friend Sam Manson harbors a deep, unspoken crush on him for the entirety of the series, patiently waiting out his awkward phases and disastrous dates before the two finally admit their feelings for each other in the series finale. Beyond the core trio, the show is filled with chaotic and often tragic romantic subplots. The school bully Dash Baxter pursues Paulina out of status, but harbors a surprisingly genuine, heavily rejected crush on Danny’s older sister, Jazz. The adult world is even darker; Vlad Masters’ entire supervillain origin and decades-long vendetta against the Fenton family stem from his twisted, obsessive, and entirely unrequited love for Maddie Fenton, who happily married Jack. Even the Ghost Zone has its share of messy relationships, from the tragically cursed, wish-granting Desiree to the constantly bickering biker couple Johnny 13 and Kitty, proving that teenage drama, obsession, and heartbreak don't stop just because you're dead.
