Fantasy as a genre has some of the highest variance in quality across works I've ever seen. Which is not especially surprising. Given simple and broadly appealing enough building blocks, you will inevitably find yourself in an ocean of poop sculptures. But sometimes it hits. And that's when you get pieces that define genres, mediums and millions of lives. 'The Bugle Call: Song of War', feels very much like one of those highlights. Except when it doesn't. And sometimes it really, really doesn't.
