China - Winnie Mandela Says Injustice Continues

(8 Sep 1995) T/I: 10:38:12 The estranged wife of President Nelson Mandela, Winnie Mandela, said Thursday (7/9) that senior members of the ruling African National Congress are working with the National Party to undermine her, and that there is still oppression of women in South Africa due to cultural conditioning. She is attending the United Nations Conference on Women. REPORTER: when you use a term like closed ranks it sounds like there is a battle ahead. what is the battle? Winnie: we are not free. You know that we are not totally liberated in south africa. The women still have a long cause to fight. We have emerged from a very brutal past. As i have repeated time without number the african national congress is in government but not in power and the injustices that are perpetrated towards black women especially are still there.
