WHY I WROTE THIS SONG “We Need a Signal!” — Scott Theater at A-F-R-H I wrote this song because sometimes the best way to get an important message across is through music, a little humor, and a whole lot of heart. I've been a resident of the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, D.C., for nearly four years now, and during that time, one thing has continued to bother me. Our Scott Theater has little or no reliable Wi-Fi signal. Now, that might not sound like a big problem to some people, but in today's world, a good internet connection can open the door to so many wonderful possibilities. Think about what we could do in that theater with dependable Wi-Fi! We could present educational programs, stream special events, share videos, enjoy musical performances, and introduce new technology that could make life here more interesting and enjoyable for our residents. The Scott Theater is a valuable part of our community, and I believe it could become an even better place with the right technology. But here's the problem. I didn't know how to get this message to the people who have the authority and the ability to make something happen. I don't know what has already been tried, what obstacles might exist, or what it would take to bring a reliable signal into the theater. And I certainly don't want to criticize anyone who may already be working on the problem. So I decided to do something I know how to do. I wrote a song! And because I wanted the message to be heard, I added a little old-fashioned, revival-style preaching, calling out for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a signal strong enough to reach every corner of that theater! It's meant to bring a smile, maybe a laugh, but underneath all that excitement is a sincere request. Can we please find a way to bring reliable Wi-Fi to the Scott Theater? I'm adding this song to my I Still Sing YouTube channel and my playlist, “What Can Be Better at A-F-R-H?” That playlist isn't about complaining. It's about caring enough for our community to suggest improvements that could benefit everyone. At my age, I still believe in learning, creating, sharing, and making things better for the people around me. And if a little music, a little laughter, and one enthusiastic old fellow calling out for a signal can help get the conversation started, then this song has served its purpose. I'm not asking for a miracle. I'm just asking for a signal! Bob Santero Resident, Armed Forces Retirement Home Creator of “I Still Sing”
