Every telephone was dead. And somewhere in the distance, he could see a glowing cross standing in the middle of the darkness. Elijah didn’t understand what he was seeing, but he knew he had to warn someone. He went from house to house telling people that something was coming, begging them to pray and turn back to God. Most people laughed at him. Some called him crazy. Others told him to leave them alone. Elijah kept warning them anyway. Then, on the third night, every light in town went out at exactly 11:47 PM. The power grid had completely failed, but there was no storm, no explosion, and no explanation. For three nights, the town remained almost completely dark. And every night, people began seeing the same thing Elijah had seen in his visions: a glowing cross appearing somewhere in the darkness. It appeared in an empty field the first night. On top of a hill the second. And on the final night, it appeared in the center of town. Thousands of people gathered around it. Some were terrified. Some cried. And some fell to their knees. Elijah stood among them and finally understood what his visions had been about. The darkness had never been the warning. It was what the darkness was meant to reveal. He opened his Bible and began reading about Jesus—the Light of the world. By sunrise, people who had mocked Elijah were praying beside him. When the electricity finally returned, the glowing cross disappeared. But something had changed in that town. Churches that had been nearly empty began filling again. Families began praying together. And Elijah never had another vision. Years later, people still argued about what happened during those three nights. Some said it was a strange electrical failure. Others believed it was something they could never explain. But Elijah always gave the same answer: “God didn’t send the darkness so we could fear it.
