"THE MAN ON THE CAMERA" – The Disappearance of Claudia Lawrence (York, 2009)

A man was caught on camera less than an hour before her last phone call. Seventeen years later, nobody has ever said who he is. Claudia Lawrence was a 35-year-old chef at the University of York who vanished on the evening of 18 March 2009, walking home from work in Heworth. Her house showed no signs of forced entry or struggle — but her phone, chef's uniform, and rucksack were gone. She has never been found, and North Yorkshire Police have treated her disappearance as a suspected murder since April 2009. The case remains open. North Yorkshire Police's Cold Case Review Unit is still actively assessing new information, and a facial age-progression of Claudia was released as recently as November 2025. If you have any information, you can contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 (quote "Claudia Lawrence"), or reach Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via crimestoppers-uk.org.
