How do you get a 40-ton mining machine TWO MILES underground? It obviously can’t just drive down there. And many of these machines are far too large to fit inside the narrow shafts that carry miners thousands of feet beneath the surface. So how do they do it? In this video, we uncover the incredible engineering and logistics behind getting giant mining machines deep underground. You’ll discover how enormous loaders, drilling machines and mining equipment are taken apart on the surface, lowered piece by piece through vertical mine shafts, transported through underground tunnels and then rebuilt by skilled crews deep beneath the Earth. And some machines are MUCH bigger than a truck. Longwall mining systems can stretch hundreds of meters, contain equipment weighing thousands of tons in total and require weeks of underground assembly before mining can even begin. All while crews are working in an environment where the surrounding rock can reach extreme temperatures. ⛏️ Did you think these machines were actually built underground? 👷 Miners and heavy equipment operators: what’s the biggest piece of equipment you’ve ever seen moved underground? 👇 Tell us in the comments — and share another underground mystery you want us to explore next. 👍 If you learned something new, hit like. 🔔 Subscribe for more entertaining and educational videos exploring mining, giant machines, extreme engineering and the hidden world beneath our feet.
