Why are we still here? Just to watch creators we used to enjoy embarrass themselves? Stop me if you've heard this one: former co-hosts of a Let's Play channel decide apropos of nothing to spill the beans, a half-decade later, about how awful their experience working with their former co-creatives was. And the effort of doing so... then blew up in their face. Yes, Ding-Dong and Julian have had some pretty harsh things to say about OneyPlays, its audience, and its namesake Chris O'Neill (who is this week, apparently, in his own drama about a salacious romance-gone-wrong). They came out swinging, pretty-abruptly accusing fans of the channel of being (mostly) alt-right cryptofascists. They did so across several days of streams, one of which stretched out past the twenty-four hour mark - now that's some serious dedication to having contempt for your (former) fans! But amidst all the tubaposting and Tomar jokes that were stale a decade ago, a question has lingered that's been hard to answer: why would they do this? Especially since they seem to have understood that it would backfire horribly, why dig up any of these ghosts of the past? I think the answer's pretty simple: the two-way street of toxic codependency between creators and fans. Which reminded me of another guy by the name of Ragnar Tørnquist... Ah, hell. RIP Tim Curry.
