COVENTRY CITY 4-1 NEWCASTLE UNITED! 🩵 WHAT A NIGHT AT THE CBS ARENA! It's been 27 years since Coventry City last beat Newcastle United, all the way back in 1999! We've lost our last seven meetings against the Magpies, but tonight was a completely different story! Newcastle made the long journey down to Coventry and brought some serious numbers with them, but the Sky Blue Army were in full voice at the CBS Arena! Charlie didn't join me for this one. Instead, I was joined by my daughter Phoebe, who absolutely loves coming to the football with me. At this rate, I might have to get her and Sophie season tickets next season! 😂 Being a Monday evening game, we didn't do anything too extravagant. We got an Uber to the ground, enjoyed a few drinks outside and caught up with friends, family and some of you lovely lot who follow my social media accounts. It's always great meeting new people and catching up with familiar faces! Once inside, we grabbed our seats, watched the lads warm up and I introduced Phoebe to a few of Coventry's newer players. And what a first half! Coventry took an early lead after Newcastle conceded a penalty, with Jack Rudoni stepping up and putting the ball in the back of the net in the 6th minute! A special moment as Rudoni dedicated his goal to his nan, who's recovering in hospital after suffering a heart attack. Massive respect! 🩵 Newcastle had their chances, but just couldn't find that clinical finish. Meanwhile, Bobby Thomas was absolutely outstanding at the back. After just 10–15 minutes, I was already convinced he was going to be my Man of the Match! Absolutely superb defending from the big man! HALF-TIME: COVENTRY CITY 1-0 NEWCASTLE UNITED Me and Phoebe headed downstairs for a drink and a little chat about the football. I go to so many games with Charlie, so it was lovely spending some proper father-and-daughter time together. The second half got underway and Coventry were absolutely flying! Sidiki Cherif made it 2-0 just three minutes after the restart, scoring his first goal for Coventry City! Although I was enjoying the football so much that I completely missed the goal on camera! 😂 Coventry were pressing forward, chasing every ball and looking like they wanted it more than Newcastle. I've said it time and time again: if you press, fight for the ball and want it more than the opposition, you'll give yourself every chance of winning! Then Sven Botman pulled one back for Newcastle with an absolute screamer! Why do centre-halves always seem to score worldies against us? We had the same thing against Brighton! With tired legs starting to show, Frank Lampard made some brilliant substitutions at exactly the right time. Ellis Simms came off the bench and grabbed Coventry's third with his first touch of the game! Then young Stephen Mfuni replaced Jack Rudoni and produced an absolutely fantastic solo goal! Dancing his way around the defenders before finishing brilliantly! And to make it even more special, Mfuni became Coventry City's youngest-ever Premier League goalscorer at just 18 years old! FULL-TIME: COVENTRY CITY 4-1 NEWCASTLE UNITED! WHAT. A. NIGHT! 🩵 Coventry City's second Premier League victory in 25 years and our first home win back in the top flight since 2001! Over 30,000 supporters inside the CBS Arena witnessed an absolutely incredible night of football! Two wins on the bounce, six points from our last two games and we're out of the relegation zone! Next up, Tottenham Hotspur away on Monday. Can we make it three Premier League wins in a row? OF COURSE WE CAN!
