Britain conquered Upper Burma in 1885 and sent King Thibaw, Queen Supayalat, and their family into exile in India. But the fall of the Konbaung Dynasty did not end when the king left Mandalay.
This documentary follows the royal family into Ratnagiri, where Thibaw became a state pensioner, his four daughters grew up without a kingdom, and the dynasty fractured into radically different lives. From colonial surveillance and forbidden marriages to the missing Nga Mauk ruby and the unresolved debate over Thibaw’s remains, this is the story of what happened after Burma lost its last king.

About Us
Thrones Unmade explores what happens after royal power collapses. We follow deposed kings, exiled queens, scattered dynasties, abolished monarchies, disputed inheritances, and the families left behind when political systems move on without them. The channel is made for viewers who enjoy serious royal history, empire, exile, succession, and the human consequences of political collapse, but want more than surface-level timelines or “then and now” summaries. Each documentary looks beyond the moment a throne falls to ask the harder question: what happened to the people, property, identity, and memory that survived it?
