💝 Happy Valentine's Day! 💝
in this scene i want to take you to the historic Old Lower Town of Loviisa.
Crowned as "The best small town in Finland".
Loviisa has a population of ~15,000 and an area of 1,751 km² of which 905 km² is sea and a population density of just 17.9 inhabs/km².
The Loviisa region used to be called the City of Degerby between 1745 - 1752, until King Adad Fredrik of Sweden visited in 1752 and gave the city
a new name, after his wife, Queen Loviisa Ulriikka.
Mainly founded as a border and fortress city in Eastern Finland when the fortified town of Hamina was ceded to Russia in the peace of Turku (1743).
Loviisa is known for its historic Lower Town, which was spared the great fire of Loviisa in 1855.
The Degerby equestrian farm is one of the oldest wooden buildings in Finland, which dates back to the 1690s.
The Lower Town is characterized for its small and straight street views marked by small buildings built in the 18th and early 19th century.
In the center lays the Salt Square (market), originally inhabited by sailors and artisans.
In the Lower Town also lays the Old Cemetery opened in 1750. One of the first cemeteries outside of the city in Finland.
An estimated 3,000 buried and 1,150 tombstones, of which who were involved in the phases of the wars in some way.
I have recorded several previous scenes in Loviisa, the first one published exactly 1 year ago (for Valentine's Day).
I'll link some of them in the description below and in the top right corner of your screen.

But wait, there is more. The "Historical Houses of Loviisa" is an annual event during the last weekend of August since 2005.
During these days, historical over 100-year-old private homes open their doors for public.
It's the largest event in Finland opening up gardens and courtyards for the public eye.
With an estimated 15,000 guests over the weekend, it's well worth a visit.
