In this video, I fumble my way through taking the gas tank off my Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 to change the air filter to the DNA Performance filter. This is part of the 5000 km service, which is only required in North America, to my knowledge. I have a few comments about that. Taking the tank off was easier than I had feared. I think with some practice, I could take the tank off in less than 10 minutes. Some people have mentioned that having the air filter under the tank was a deal breaker for buying the Himalayan 450, but I’ve found other tasks more onerous, including accessing the battery on the Africa Twin.
There's a list of the other inspect and lubricate steps for the 5000 km service. I also cleaned the chain and changed the oil, but I didn't put those in the video. This is just a video of an average guy taking the tank off, so you can see that it's not too hard.
I learned how to do this tank removal by watching some videos by more skilled mechanics, including Eazy’s Garage. Check him out for RE Himalayan service videos.
