"A kind of interesting note about the Edinburgh concerts NO played was an increasing apparent dislike of Edinburgh audiences. The 83 shows went well enough but the Feb 85 show was marred by a 10 o'clock council deadline on noise. The Royal Family and the Poor played on a bit late so NO were rushed on and Barney muttered something about hating Edinburgh and 'yer fookin' council'... The 86 show at the Playhouse was worse. The show itself was ok if a bit devoid of any passion and near the end Barney said 'I hate playing in Edinburgh' he muttered something else then went on about how nobody danced or moved and it was like we were all fenced in by chicken wire. The next night in Glasgow, a much better venue and show, he said 'I always like playing in Glasgow. Much prefer it to Edinburgh' cue big cheer. Also before The Perfect Kiss he said 'Perfect Kiss as played perfectly by New Order'. An interesting point about LWTUA that night was that I read at an earlier concert it was dedicated to someone who had died years before. At Glasgow that night PH introduced it 'This is for someone who can't be with us tonight, coz she's (no typo) dead, so 1,2,3,4...'. In fact, it was dedicated to promote Ruth Polsky, who the band were very close to, and who had met a tragic end at the hands of an out-of-control car service driver just a few days prior, on the 7th of September : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruth_Po... You can hear the sheer antagonism between band and audience dripping from the oxide here, starting after Paradise which did not go over well with the assemblage, with cries of "Piss", culminating at the 37m39 point, after the conclusion of Sub-culture...the mock-shocked "Oh nooooo..." right at the start of Ceremony, delivered by Lazlo in a falsetto, is chef's kiss.
