ICED GEM COOKIES | ICE COOKIES | BISKUT BUTANG | BISKUT AIS JEM making with Aunty M Known as Biskut Ais Jem in Malaysia, they were the must-have snack for kids (and adults) who grew up anywhere between the 70s and early 00s. While we may have thought that these iced gem biscuits as an Malaysian origin , it’s actually a snack first created in England in early 1900. According to the Straits Time, the biscuit bottoms were first made by Huntley and Palmer in Reading, Britain in the 1850s. The iconic icing came later in the 1910s. This recipe may differ from the airy, crunchy cracker base we know and love . I’ve decided to give it a twist as most British recipes for iced gems call for a buttery biscuit base that is reminiscent more of British shortbread than a Hup Seng cream cracker. So enjoy this delightful biscuit with crunchy sweet meringue, pairs perfectly with a hot beverage of your choice. Love always, Aunty M Follow HEYFOODTV Media for a chance to win attractive merchandise and fun learning experience about culinary arts and food from around the globe #ASMR #cooking #dessert #recipe
