Mississippi keeps two versions of every haunted place: the story on the historical marker, and the paperwork underneath it that nobody finished. This film counts down eleven of the creepiest places in Mississippi that locals refuse to visit after dark, and in almost every one of them, the documented history turns out to be stranger than the legend.
From a bare patch of ground the National Park Service itself calls folklore, to a fire that took 325 buildings in Yazoo City, to the antebellum ruins at Natchez left standing after a war and a cigar, this video follows the record, not the rumor. It ends at Asylum Hill in Jackson, where an estimated 7,000 coffins sit under a working hospital campus, and only a few hundred have been lifted after more than a decade of digging.
Every place, date, and figure in this video is drawn from public records, newspapers, state historical sources, and official project documentation, linked where available in the sources below.
