A 55-Year-Old Man Missed… And His Family Was 660 km Away

☕ Support my journey: https://buymeacoffee.com/unclesisekai A few days ago, I drove my wife and two daughters 660 km from Saitama to Kuji, Iwate, for a music camp. I left our car with them and made the long journey home alone. Now, a few days later, it was time to travel all the way back to Kuji and bring my family home. The plan seemed simple. Travel from Honjo to Tokyo. Take an overnight bus from Tokyo to Morioka. Then take an early morning bus from Morioka to Kuji. But things didn’t go as planned. One misunderstanding at the bus terminal completely changed my journey. I ended up spending an unexpected night at my tiny apartment in Tokyo, getting only about three hours of sleep, and starting all over again before dawn. This time, I took the Tohoku Shinkansen from Ueno to Ninohe, then a JR bus through the quiet countryside of northeastern Japan to Kuji. What was supposed to cost about $44 became a much more expensive journey. But at least the Shinkansen was very comfortable. 😄 I finally arrived in Kuji and made it to Jūmonji Chicken Amber Hall, where my family had been attending the IKAR International Music Festival 2026 in Kuji. I missed my older daughter’s piano solo, but I was able to hear my younger daughter play the violin and my older daughter perform piano as part of an ensemble. After all the unexpected problems, we were finally together again. And then it was time to begin the 660 km journey home.
