💪 Sometimes it’s easier to do something than complain about it. I saw a comment on social media raising concerns about the outdoor exercise equipment at Hickings Lane Recreation Ground and saying that some of the equipment wasn’t really usable because of the weeds around it. So, rather than just commenting online, I came down today to have a look for myself. Yes, there were a few weeds around the equipment. Was it slightly messy? Absolutely. Was it completely unusable? I wouldn’t go that far. But I thought, if it needs a bit of attention, why not actually do something about it? So I grabbed some gardening tools and a brush, rolled up my sleeves and spent a while clearing the weeds and tidying around the outdoor exercise equipment. And do you know what? It looks considerably better than it did when I arrived. 👍 It’s always very easy to criticise on social media and accuse people of doing nothing about issues — even something as simple as a few weeds. But sometimes the quickest way to make a difference is simply to get on and do something about it. I much prefer being an “I can” person rather than an “I can’t” person. Now that I’ve done my bit, I’ll also contact the Parks officers at Broxtowe Borough Council and ask if they can keep an eye on the area and make sure the weeds are kept on top of going forward. Like many people, I enjoy keeping active and exercising, so I’m pleased that we have outdoor equipment like this available for everyone to use. 🌳💪 It’s there. It’s been tidied up. So now… go and use it! And if you see something that needs attention, by all means report it — but sometimes, where we can safely do something ourselves, doing is better than simply complaining.
