Colin Dougherty takes us inside the story of the legendary TRG #66 “Cosmic Car” Porsche 997 GT3 Cup — a Grand Am / ALMS machine with a brief but electric history.
Originally campaigned in 2012, this car ran Daytona twice, the Six Hours of Watkins Glen, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and Lime Rock Park. With standout drivers like Dominik Farnbacher, Ben Keating, Mario Farnbacher, Patrick Pilet, and the late Allan Simonsen, the #66 carved out a unique identity in its short nine-event life — including a blistering 1:48 lap at Daytona.
Colin breaks down how the car was rediscovered, restored, and prepared by CDOC after months of meticulous sorting. From its iconic cosmic livery (originally designed by Thomas Snyder) to its Grand-Am–spec upgrades — Bosch ABS, TracTive suspension, Ricardo gearbox, carbon doors, tubbed fender wells, and a fresh 3.8L high-output engine with just two hours on it — this is a rare, remarkably preserved piece of Porsche racing history.
