Humans depend on healthy ocean systems for food, oxygen, climate regulation, coastal protection, and global trade. However, some human activities may harm ocean systems. For example, shrimp farming can destroy mangrove forests, disrupting marine food webs and releasing stored carbon. Plastic pollution and ocean warming create additional threats, while mangrove restoration, sustainable aquaculture, and responsible seafood choices can help protect ocean ecosystems.
