This hand originated from a local bridge club where South opened with a 1NT (Acol, indicating 12-14 hcp). West bids a natural overcall of 2♣ and North responds with 2♦.
Our first key question: What is this 2♦ bid? Is it a a transfer to Hearts or not?
Once we're into the play of the hand, we see a very interesting opportunity for the defenders.
A key decision is made early. Many of us are very familiar with the maxim, "Second hand plays low." Can you think of a reason why West might not want to in trick two? If West plays the ♦K, it is sure to fall to the ace. What would be the point of that?
