AI is entering classrooms faster than ever — but now schools and governments are putting the brakes on. 🚨 Norway has introduced age-based national recommendations under which students in Grades 1–7 should generally not be given access to AI for schoolwork, while AI can be introduced gradually and cautiously in Grades 8–10. Older students should learn appropriate AI use for further education and work. And Norway isn't alone. New York City has introduced a one-year moratorium on student-facing generative AI for Grades 2-K through 8 for the 2026–27 school year, affecting nearly 600,000 public-school students. High-school students will have limited access to approved programs and will receive AI-literacy education. But here's the BIG question: Is AI making students smarter — or making them dependent on technology? The Norwegian government has expressed particular concern about younger children and the possibility of students skipping important stages of learning. But there is another side to the story. AI isn't necessarily the enemy. A student can use AI to: Understand → Practice → Get feedback → Find mistakes → Learn Or use it as: Question → AI answer → Copy → Submit → Forget The difference is how AI is used. And this is where India's situation becomes particularly interesting. Maharashtra has announced an initiative with Google to provide AI and digital-technology training to more than four lakh teachers, showing that India's approach is also moving toward AI literacy and responsible adoption rather than simply banning the technology.
