Wil Talk with Artists #97 Freya Grand

This digital discussion is with artist Freya Grand. Freya obtained her degree in art at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. After graduation Grand spent three years living off the grid on a small island off of the northern coast of British Columbia, an experience that reinforced an inherent connection with the natural world - sea, storms, the patterns and rhythms of nature, all were critical parts of daily life. Upon returning to Wisconsin, she began painting in earnest and during those years exhibited her work in galleries and museums in the Midwest, including in Chicago. Freya arrived in Washington, DC in 1990, deepening her focus on the natural world, her studio work now informed by journeys to remote and untouched places - the Andes, Patagonia, Namibia, the Scottish Highlands, Iceland, the swamps of Mississippi and Louisiana among others. Freya has exhibited her work in Santa Fe, Philadelphia, Baltimore, New York and in the Washington, DC area in both galleries and regional museums.
