Pt. Balasaheb Poonchwale sings Raag Miyan Ki Todi Pt. Balasaheb Poonchwale (1918-2005) was a vocalist of the Gwalior Gharana, primarily receiving training from his father, the illustrious Pt. Rajabhaiyya Poonchwale. He was also trained by Pt. Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande and Pt. S.N. Ratanjankar. Other than khayal and the standard set of semi-classical and classical forms most musicians of his calibre were masters of, he specialized in singing tappa. His musical lineage was adjacent to that of the Pandits of Gwalior, as his father had learnt from Pt. Shankarrao Pandit and Ust. Nissar Hussain Khan (not to be confused with Ust. Nissar Hussain Khan of Rampur who came much later). His disciples include Pt. Raja Kale, Smt. Shashwati Mandal Paul, and Sh. Vishal Moghe. There is no intent to monetize off of these recordings. They are uploaded for the purpose of public archival.
