Homes STILL aren't selling for some homeowners—and now sellers are becoming increasingly frustrated with the reality of today's real estate market. In this video, we're looking at homeowners struggling to sell houses in 2026, sellers cutting home prices, buyers backing out of real estate deals, homes receiving showings but ZERO offers, expensive mortgage payments and sellers competing against new construction incentives they simply can't match. One homeowner is confronted with the possibility that what she needs to break even on her house may not be what today's real estate market says the property is worth. Another seller says her home sat on the market for an entire YEAR before she finally stopped trying to sell it. Another gets 16 showings without an offer while buyers choose new construction instead. And another property has been listed for nearly six months despite a major price reduction. Home sellers may need certain prices to cover their mortgages, closing costs, realtor commissions and other expenses—but home buyers are dealing with a completely different financial reality. Higher mortgage interest rates can dramatically change monthly housing payments, while buyers also have to consider property taxes, homeowners insurance, utilities, repairs, maintenance and potentially HOA fees. At the same time, homeowners who secured historically low mortgage rates may have little incentive to move. Selling could mean giving up a low-rate mortgage and purchasing another house at today's prices and interest rates. Then there's new construction. Some home builders can offer mortgage-rate incentives and other concessions that individual sellers can't necessarily compete with, giving buyers another reason to consider a new home instead of an existing property. And what happens when a seller simply can't afford to lower the price anymore? Do they wait? Cut the asking price? Spend even more money renovating? Take a financial loss? Or take the house off the market entirely? This isn't simply a story about home sellers.
