Weitere Informationen unter: https://cap-arcona.com/ The sinking of the Cap Arcona and its escort ship Thielbek with an estimated 7,500 deaths is one of the greatest shipping disasters of all time. On the afternoon of May 3, 1945, nine Royal Air Force fighter-bombers bombed the former luxury liner of Hamburg-Süd and at the same time destroyed the hope of liberation of the 8,000 prisoners from 22 nations housed here. The sinking took place in 60 minutes. Was the Cap Arcona just a comfortable concentration camp, as some right-wing populists see it to this day, or did the SS want to set a trap for the British by deliberately exposing the ships with their human cargo to the attack in Neustadt Bay? What caused the ships to explode and sink? In a kind of autopsy, the historian Wilhelm Lange clarifies who is responsible for the crime at the Baltic Sea crime scene, how the tragedy came about and tries to solve the final riddle. And it also sheds light on the darkness surrounding the murder of Jews in Neustadt in Holstein, which took place a few hours before the Cap Arcona was bombed.
