Ginny Buckley gets up close with one of the stars of the Paris motor show – the stunning new Renault 8 Gordini Concept. It may not be heading for production, but this one-off electric concept shows what happens when Renault takes one of its most iconic performance cars and gives it a thoroughly modern makeover. Inspired by the original Renault 8 Gordini of the 1960s, this two-door, two-seat electric coupe combines 270bhp, rear-wheel drive and some seriously clever design details. From the six-headlight front end and sculpted wheelarches to the hidden '8' details, laser-etched rear lights and those gorgeous 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels, Ginny explores how Renault has reimagined a classic without simply copying it. Inside, things get even more interesting. There are corduroy bucket seats, brushed aluminium, circular digital displays and a wonderfully pared-back dashboard – a refreshing change from the giant screens and visual clutter found in so many modern EVs. Ginny also gets the story behind the concept from its designers, including which elements could potentially make it into future Renault production cars. And then there's the big question: could Gordini make a comeback? The Renault 8 Gordini Concept is part of Renault's growing fascination with reinterpreting its greatest hits for the electric era, following the Renault 17 restomod.
