Owner Craig Smith recently retired from the manufacturing industry and pivoted his specialized equipment to engineer top-tier modern replicas and power supplies for the Commodore and Amiga communities. In this interview, Craig walks us through his lineup of reinvented retro gear: The Anti-Brick of Death: Craig builds modern, fully electronically protected power supplies for the C64, C128, Amiga 600, and Amiga 1200. Unlike the dangerous original Commodore "Bricks of Death," these units feature short-fault and brownout protection, plus a live LED display showing exactly how many amps your system is drawing in real-time. The 1581 Replica (Single & Dual): Authentic Commodore 1581 disk drives are incredibly rare, expensive, and prone to plastic shell cable melt. Craig builds brand-new, 100% compatible 1581 replicas using fully refurbished, cleaned, and tested PC drive mechanisms. He even engineered a reinforced horizontal "Dual 1581" drive inspired by the Apple DuoDisk, complete with C64C-style vents, capable of supporting the weight of a CRT monitor on top! They run on a simple 6V to 12V center-positive wall wart. MEGA1581: The MEGA65 is a beautiful modern realization of Commodore's unreleased C65.
