Menzoberranzan, the Famed City of the Drow | D&D Lore To Sleep To

Deep beneath the forests of the North lies a city that has never seen the sun, a city of twenty thousand drow who mark each day by watching heat climb a great pillar of stone. Menzoberranzan, the City of Spiders, began as a passing mention in a novel about Icewind Dale and became one of the most famous places in the Forgotten Realms. This long, gentle documentary follows its origins in northern folklore and the drow of early Dungeons & Dragons, its legendary founding by Menzoberra the Kinless, and its life across the novels of R. A. Salvatore and every edition from the 1992 boxed set to the present day. Along the way we visit its noble houses, its matron mothers and the Spider Queen who rules them, and why this city still shapes how the drow are imagined.
