On The Carpet

Two fingerpicked guitars in DADGAD tuning. This is a fun one to play. My new album "Parris" drops 10-1-2026. Available now @ markchasemusic.bandcamp.com on the carpet i was livin' in a different country under a different name where you knew my ragged history but loved me just the same one day while you were teaching at the university three women came up to our door wishing to speak with me the first woman was a gentle soul who loved easily and sweet working honest she'd make a home where a workin' man could sleep the second woman had been abused by a man or related beast she had no love for sperm donors and would give no male his peace the third woman wore no makeup no paint or easy clue no hint for easy reference to show what she might do that woman had hard questions she never spoke aloud her eyes were deep as a ritual cave out beyond the clouds she sat in liable neutrality where opposing tides might rip ready to give thumb up or down on how the scales would tip so i added up my chances, one yes one no, one toss they asked me why you loved me and who i really was if i'd'a had my mind about me weighed the words i'd say i'd'a tell them how i admired you and i'd be with you today
