Iris de Cairos-Rego : Waltz Caprice

Iris de Cairos-Rego (1894-1987) was a celebrated concert pianist and composer from Sydney, Australia. She began piano lessons with her father, George, a composer and music critic who played an important role in establishing the Sydney Conservatorium. Cairos-Rego travelled across the world to study in London and Berlin from 1907-1910. Returning to Australia, she embarked on a career spanning performing and teaching. She mainly composed for solo piano, including this endearing Waltz Caprice from 1941. True to it's 'Caprice' label, the work has a free and whimsical character, evoking the lightness and intimacy of 19th-century European salon music.
