"Somebody Wrote This" is a reflective traditional country song written by Joseph Patrick Ward. I composed a melody in the traditional country style for his excellent lyrics.

People often assume AI generates my music from scratch. It doesn't. I write the lyrics, except for this one, compose the melody, play the guitar, and record my own vocal demo until I'm happy with the result. I then use Suno and my custom voice persona as a virtual studio band and vocal production tool to produce my songs the way I want them.
[Verse 1]
I was headed home at sundown,
Past the cattle and the creek,
Then I saw an old brown letter
Lying there beneath my feet.
Folded up and worn with weather,
Most the ink was fading thin,
And I thought, “Somebody wrote this,
There must be a hand behind the pen.”
[Chorus]
Somebody wrote this, somebody wrote this,
Somebody signed His name across the sky.
Somebody hung the moon above the meadow,
Somebody taught the morning how to rise.
Call it chance, call it fate,
I can't deny what I see:
If there's a letter, there's a Writer,
And He's been writing to me.
[Verse 2]
Next morning at the cattle gate,
Coffee steaming in my cup,
Sun came through the old tin roof
As the whole farm started up.
I looked across those open fields
As the darkness turned to day,
And the more I looked around me,
The more I knew what it would say.
[Chorus]
Somebody wrote this, somebody wrote this,
Somebody signed His name across the sky.
Somebody hung the moon above the meadow,
Somebody taught the morning how to rise.
Call it chance, call it fate,
I can't deny what I see:
If there's a letter, there's a Writer,
And He's been writing to me.
[Bridge]
Then I opened up the Good Book
By that old porch light,
Read about the Word from the beginning,
And everything felt right.
[Final Chorus]
Somebody wrote this, somebody wrote this,
Somebody signed His name across the sky.
Somebody hung the moon above the meadow,
Somebody breathed the breath in me tonight.
Call it chance, call it fate,
Now I know what I believe:
If there's a letter, there's a Writer,
And He's been writing to me.
[Outro]
I tucked that faded letter
In the pocket of my jeans.
Somebody wrote this...
Somebody knows my name.
